At our BEIRC facility we organize a structured learning experience for the patients using a combination of methods such as teaching, counselling, and behaviour modification techniques that influence patient's knowledge and health behaviour. Firstly, patient's allergic conditions are diagnosed by BEIRC doctors and they are given the best possible treatment. Allergy is a prolonged condition, thus we educate our patients on how to move forward with the condition as most of the allergies are preventive to an extent.
Allergic Rhinitis
Allergic rhinitis, also known as hay fever, is a type of inflammation in the nose which occurs when the immune system overreacts to allergens in the air. Signs and symptoms include a runny or stuffy nose, sneezing, red, itchy, and watery eyes, and swelling around the eyes. The fluid from the nose is usually clear. Symptom onset is often within minutes following allergen exposure and can affect sleep, and the ability to work or study. Some people may develop symptoms only during specific times of the year, often as a result of pollen exposure. Many people with allergic rhinitis also have asthma, allergic conjunctivitis, or atopic dermatitis.

An allergen is an otherwise harmless substance that causes an allergic reaction. Allergic rhinitis, or hay fever, is an allergic response to specific allergens. Pollen is the most common allergen in seasonal allergic rhinitis. These are allergy symptoms that occur with the change of seasons. Nearly 8 percent of adults in the United States experience allergic rhinitis of some kind, according to the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology (AAAAI). Between 10 and 30 percent of the worldwide population may also have allergic rhinitis.

Symptoms of Allergic Rhinitis
Common symptoms of allergic rhinitis include:
-
a sore or scratchy throat
-
dark circles under the eyes
-
frequent headaches
-
eczema-type symptoms, such as having extremely dry, itchy skin that can blister and weep
-
excessive fatigue
You’ll usually feel one or more of these symptoms immediately after coming into contact with an allergen. Some symptoms, such as recurrent headaches and fatigue, may only happen after long-term exposure to allergens. Fever isn’t a symptom of hay fever.
Some people experience symptoms only rarely. This likely occurs when you’re exposed to allergens in large quantities. Other people experience symptoms all year long. Talk to your doctor about possible allergies if your symptoms last for more than a few weeks and don’t seem to be improving.

The idea behind the education program is to create a community of patients suffering from similar allergic conditions which in turn helps them to form a self help group where they can share their difficulties regarding similar problems, therapies that relieve their allergic condition and healthy conversation which motivates them to overcome the condition.

On alternative Wednesdays we organize Patients Education Program where patients suffering from allergic conditions
are invited to BEIRC facility. Here we discuss what are allergies, how to prevent allergies, how to use various inhalers and medicines, and various concepts of allergies.
